I thought this shot showed some character and maybe a little humor in an insect that is hard to see because it looks like dirt.
This Carolina locust was kind enough to sit for me on a cool summer morning. It was so still that I shot a profile portrait (that I posted a while back) and this head-on stack of 10 images. The low temperature may have contributed to its lack of movement, but "freezing" is part of this insect's camouflage routine. When you get too close, however, they startle you by flying off, displaying dark wings with a broad, yellow marginal stripe. I'd love to get a "BIF" (Bug in flight) shot of that, but have not figured out how to do it.

8 commentsNIce job with the stack, Wayne. I like the face features that would never be seen without being this close. Great detail in this one.
Very Cool Wayne,
Great title but, does it apply to his in yours or you in his ? Either way this is a masterful composition that is excellent in all respects.
Well done . . .
WOW, 10 image stack. Great job on this one, Wayne.....although I might not sleep too well tonight after seeing this mug......
This is different. An outstanding image of it's type Looks really ugley and alien like - that's probably why I like it so much. Great job in stacking the images. Nice to have this type of image in one's collection. Graham
Hi Wayne,
The hopper looks good with some clean stacking and in-focus areas nice and sharp. Also, I like the details on the face that are revealed with some ideal lighting

Wow, Wayne. Very impressive close-up of this grasshopper. Amazing detail via the stack.
Excellent detail/DOF and your portrait has great impact Wayne.
One can't escape the feeling of intimidation this mug projects..
Well done!
Now that's a face!!! The details are awesome, Wayne, excellent stacking. I can imaging it opening that mouth wide and having a basso profundo voice come out.
