Cubs in a Tree

Two Lion cubs posing nicely in a tree. These lions are from the resident Naona pride in the Moru Kopjes area of the Serengeti National Park. The light was really really low so since the 1D IV does not handle high ISO too well I was forced to low shutter speed but still managed to get a pleasing result.

EOS 1D Mark IV  -  EF300mm f2.8L IS USM + 1.4x  -  1/200sec @ f4.5  -  ISO 640

"Pleasing" is a huge understatement. This is just amazing. The rich colors, great look at those wonderful eyes and that awesome branch put this over the top. That drooping tail and those outstreatched legs also add substantially. My only nit is I want to see a larger image.

Great setting and awesome frame!

I am missing the large file too, is it due to noise?

May prefer to darken the two sky spots on top LHS.

Fantastic frame, Mario. Very vivid on multiple levels: The rich colors and the expression on the cubs' face. Also like the high position of the cubs in the frame. The splashes of green add to the vividness. vey very pleasing result.

Cheers,

Hisham.

For me the expression on the cubs faces is what makes this image stand out.  Well taken.  Thanks for sharing.

The draping limbs and tail really help make this composition.  I especially appreciate that the very intent gazes are forward, but not directly at the cameraman!  Well done.

Mario: the pose, the look on the cat's faces and the color palette are excellent. It's a uniquely composed photo and one worthy of being printed large and hung. Congrats! Richard

Classic shot Mario. Like two kids posibng for their photograph, kind of look a bit miffed that they have to hold the pose for so long. "Can you hurry up already?" Love the light the detail, the pose, the expression, etc. All good on this one. Congrats on weekly pick.
