Here's my new favorite hummingbird species, the Green-crowned Plovercrest. We photographed this guy in the Atlantic Rainforest of Brazil. I used some fill flash to bring out the iridescence and balance the contrasty lighting. Hummingbird feeders in the area.

9 commentsGorgeous little guy. The fill flash looks really normal. Great job.
It is hard to tell a fill flash was used! Great colors and details. Almost blends too well with the BG. Thanks for sharing, a neat looking hummer.
Gorgeous hummer, love the raised green crest and the punk style spike thing
Excellent detail/DOF & use of your flash Nate
Excellent image, Nate. Great pose and techs are perfect as usual. I like the vertical comp. My only nit relates to the large black border.
I see why this would be your favorite, Nate. It's one gorgeous bird. Nice shot though the fill flash looks just a bit much to my eye.
Cool species, captured well. The thumbnail does not do this one justice. Nice use of fill. Consider moving the hummer to the right to decenter?
Whoa
This guy is super cool looking Nate! Great job capturing him in all his glory, perfect use of flash.
Sweet One!!!
Great looking bird Nate-well presented. Good use of flash here and a nice simple background. I think the image could use a little more detail in the darks though.
I can see why this is a favorite Nate. The colors and detail are excllent, I like the pose and that wonderful crest. Well done! Ray
