This guy has been hunting near the house for several days and surprised me, and I him, when I walked out of our back door and he was perched on the deck railing. He didn't fly very far and stayed long enough for me to grab the camera, lower my heart rate and capture a few images.

This is a very appealing image. Nice pose of the back side with a nice head turn. Details, exposure all look very good. I like the background and the perch.
I like it for all the reasons Keith stated. I also just plain like Cooper Hawks, and this is a very good photo of one!
An excellent capture, Neil! As mentioned above, the exposure is excellent and they eye is obvious and clear. I think this image could withstand a little contrast boost without any problem and it would really make it stand out more (more 3D).
Lovely image, Neil. Excellent pose and a great bg. I've never seen one with a gray eye before-it's pretty cool.
Very cool shot Neil. Great pose from the hawk and that background reminds me of fall. The square crop works pretty well too. Nice work!
Great look at this skittish hawk, Neil. The comp goes well with the pose and settings. The light worked in your favor too! Looks like he has just eaten.
Wow. he gave you an awesome over the shoulder pose. The square crop works, but I think you could also go with a tight vertical here, composed to minimize the portion of the obscured perch?
Excellent capture Neil. I can never find these guys out in the open. I like the head turn and the stare.
