Northern Shoveler

Went way back to February for this one.  Another from the Leonabelle Turnbull Birding Center in Port Aransas, Texas.  I liked the demure pose and the way the plumage showed in this one.

7Dii, 500mm f4 ISL + 1.4TC, can't remember if it was on a monopod or propped on the boardwalk rail for this one.  f/5.6, 1/2000, iso 320, aperture priority, center weighted average metering, no compensation.  Processed in LR5 & CS6.  Cropped to 15.7MP.  Taken early afternoon under cloudy skies on February 20th.

I really appreciate all the comments on the Juvenile Bluebird ( I went back and found another frame with better detail on the head).  I look forward to your input on this one.

Thanks,

Hi Dennis,

Sorry about that--that's what I get for doing postings before the coffee kicks in.The whites have detail and there's some nice colors on the plumage.  I think you did the best with the composition based on the pose of the bird. I might do a little extra sharpening around the eye--the eye does not look crisp, but it might be due to the soft lighting and shading around the eye. Probably my eyes plaing tricks on me as the head feathers have tons of detail............................Jim

A good example of this Shoveler Dennis, the colours show really well. The detail is excellent both in the bird and the water. Graham
