Hi Jim,
Maddie looks like she's doing well and I wouldn't be surprised if she figures out how to climb trees for a snack and or squirrel. I like the whiskers and sharp facial details. I wish the ear was in focus because ear position is very important to a dog's facial expression, but the f2 setting produced an excellent BG. I'll accept the soft ear in lieu of the excellent BG. Well done..............Jim

Thanks Jim! FWIW, I'm addicted to shooting wide open.
I was originally set up with more distance between us for better DOF, but as is usually the case Maddie was a moving target. Thanks for taking the time to comment!

Gorgeous portraiture of Maddie here, Jim. Love the attention being placed on the out of screen action too.....
This struck a real cord with me seeing Maddie as our very first family dog we had looked just like her. He was a male however with a very original name of "Spot".......what a great rescue dog he was too. My dad saved him while on duty as a phoneman on L.I. in the early 50's. Spot had been hit by a truck and was just a stray running the streets in Greenlawn a suburb of Northport area. My dad picked him up and we cared for him quite sometime until he was able to get around OK. We did have to have his tail stubbed as it had almost been torn off in the accident. He was great little muttster. Lived with us until he was about 14 years old....

That's intense! Must be food on the other end of the look.

There's a treat hanging from one of Donna's branches.

"Is it a bird? Is a plane? Nope, it's a low hanging doggie treat! Wahoo!"
Nice image, Jim! She really looks like a sweetheart!

Thanks to all for your comments and compliments!
When we adopted her in February at 16 weeks of age, we weren't really sure what we'd end up with (rescue pups are like a box of chocolates). She was originally thought to be retriever mix, but it quickly became evident that she was kind of small for that. Following a number of puppy growth charts, she's now 29 pounds at 10 months of age and is 95 to 99% of the way to full grown.
Based on her size, physique, coat and other physical characteristics, and most notably her behavior, Maddie is most likely a Rat Terrier or RT mix;
