Taken on the edge of the Lowe River at Valdez, Alaska. A family of Trumpeter Swans taking a siesta in the last of the late sunshine. The four cygnets and Mom are sound asleep while Dad stays on guard.

The large version puts you there.

5 commentsNeat photo of the resting swans. I do wish the males head was turned inward. The reflections and shadows on the water are a bit confusing. But a nice capture of this behavior. TFS.
This is a fine look at these swans, Gary. I like the guard pose and the resting family. You're right, the larger version does a good job of putting me there. I also really like the light and dark reflections in the river. They add nicely to the sense of depth. This is the kind of image that I tried unsuccessfully to find in my files in my initial search for something relevant to this topic.
How neat this is, Gary. Sure provides a calming effect here with the one swan keeping watch over the group a sleep here on the river bank. I really like the dabble light through the tall grasses, very nice....
Yes, I feel like I am sitting in the grasses with them.
