While Lon and I were wandering around Yosemite Valley early one November morning, I found this lovely maple nested amongst the pines.
This was the old Lower River campground that was wiped out in the flood of 1997. The NPS decided to allow the area to revert to it's natural state. I think this was good move because the area is now quiet and peaceful. In fact, I watched a very healthy bobcat who was taking a walk as I was working. It was a fine morning!

8 commentsI like the early Fall image, Preston. A very nice composition with the young Pines and contrasting with the Maples, icely framed by the mature Ponderosa. Sounded like a special morning.
Nicely composed maple portrait. The balance really conveys your feeling of peacefulness.
It sounds like it was a beautiful morning that you captured the essense of. Nice composition with both color and textural contrasts gracefully balanced.
All I want to keep staring at that huge slide on a light table.
Nice little spot of color, The yellows and greens really pop and pop against each other.
Excellent portrait/nature frame... Very natural colors.
I love the layering here, all the way back to the granite wall in the distance. You really are jonesing for fall, huh?
Spent the last few days with an artist friend in the Tetons. Her work and patience is very inspiring to me. I inundated myself with art books and work in various stages........Humbling to say the least. Yours was the first image that caught my eye when I returned and I love it. Simple and wonderful comp and color. Very nice Preston.
