Pied-billed Grebes generally stay in the shadows and under the overhanging limbs along the shore line so as not to be easy targets for Eagles. This makes them also hard to photograph in most cases however, this little fellow popped up unexpectedly beside the boat in nice light for a moment. I liked the water effect running off the feathers and down the neck as well as the large water droplet on the back. Hand held from boat, full frame.

Sharp details and I like the water drops at the back of the neck too..
Never got this close the few times I had a chance, my hat's off to ya man
Well done!!
Largest version is very nice. Great eye on this grebe. FG, BG , and area of focus work very well in this image.
Excellent, Mike. I like the low angle, eye contact and environment. The detail in the head is very good.
Hi Mike--Looks good--the composition and focus are very nice indeed.........................Jim
Exquisite detail in the larger image, Mike. I love that eye-I don't think I've ever seen one that clearly.
Really cool image Mike. I also like greens and the ripples in the water that convey movement. The Grebe is placed perfectly in the frame with sharp details. Great scene!
Mike: the overall green tonality and the rippled area of the rflection make this dull colored bird a standout. Richard
Very tough bird to get a close image of and good sharpness in your subject.
Nice work Mike, love the composition and the ripples on the water. Ray
