The late Summer brood of tiger swallowtails is out now and I had to test the 600mm f5.6 on these guys.  Quite a few species have been nectaring on butterfly bush. K5 IIs 600mm f5.6 (1/500sec at f8.0, ISO 800). Levels, layer mask with Topaz Detail, Shadows & Highlights...............................Jim

Looks good, Jim. The butterfly makes a great perch for the ST, and I like that you isolated both against the clean bg. Wish the butterfly bush blossom was in better shape, but not a deal breaker by any means.

Macro with a 600mm, that seems like doing it the hard way...sad ...although you can't beat the stand off distance.  The light here sure lets the swallowtail glow, the dof looks great, and the butterfly bush is a very attractive perch.  Enjoy that beast of a lens!

Excellent, Jim !  The lighting and that lovely gradient bg are pure delight; nice and sharp everywhere it should be.  I rather like the texture and colour of the dying parts of the bloom - they seem to complement the wing colours and the slight tears there.

None the worse for wear, nice look at this TS.. The butterfly bush & b-fly make a 'late summer' statement, with their corresponding 'rough' edges. Great job managing the bright sunlight..
