Texas Giant Swallowtail (female). In the original the b-flies wing tip came right to the top edge, added a bit of canvas there..
F/11, 1/1600th, ISO 640, 5DM2, 300mm f/2.8 + 2x ext. with fill flash @ 12:08pm & clear/sunny - Shot date: 07-20-15. Ended up with 3954x3954 in this squared-off composition. And a tiny jumping spider made it into the frame, BLC![]()

13 commentsWhoa, Howard! One of your best. Love the BF's postion, the terrific lighting, and the beautiful gradient bg. Outstanding!
This is a great catch, Howard. For me, this looks like the bf has just leaped into the air. Your frame adjustment is not detectable and the square format works very well. Indeed, a beauty.
Hey Howard,
It's good to see your 'Back in the Groove' after all your equipment set backs.
This is one Sweet Image my Friend,
Well done . . .
Very spectacular catch, Howard ! Amazing to see so much so sharp on a butterfly in flight. I like the bg too
An unique type of image, I have never seen this before. Excellent work to capture this action - great anticipation to get a sharp image at the speed they take off. Graham
Nicely done Howard. I was pleasantly surprised to see the butterfly coming towards the viewer

Spectacular, Howard! I like the point of view and the flower is in sharp focus. I think I might try brightening it up a bit, just personal taste on my part. Another wonderful inflight shot, congrats on a difficult capture!
Howard: Spectacular even by your standards. Of course the subject and pose are marvelous but the complementary BG and just the right amount of flower at the bottom put this in elite company IMO. Most excellent.>=))>
Howard - Stunning to say the least. Amazing focus pretty much on eye. You nailed it.
Hi Howard
No question about it
you must train these Butterflys to get these spectacular shots

the detail, motion and color are all awesome

Howard, I'm back on track here. This shot looks more like a painting to me then a photo. When photos come across with that dimensional look of 3D or like a painting they seem a bit more special in my thoughts. So, a big tip of the hat for catching this amazing scene and presenting it in such a wonderful viewing delight.......
One can only marvel at your work like this fine image, Howard.......
Not easy to do so a well deserved EP!
