Here's another shot from Ecuador in January, the Green Thorntail is a delicate little hummingbird, only the male has the long tail as seen here. Photographed at Mirador Rio Blanco in San Miguel de los Bancos, Ecuador, a restaurant that has bird feeders.

9 commentsGreat eye contact & head nod Nate, this delicate little Thorntail's a real beauty.
Love the emerald like metallic color that dominates, and those racing strips in back too
Well done!
Absolutely gorgeous Nate. I love the different look of this hummer.
Are there two catch lights in the eye?
I noticed your SS at 250; could that be two flashes?
Thanks Howard and Greg. Greg, I didn't use flash on this particular shot, It's either natural light or possibly another photographer using flash took an image at the same time which could have produced one of the catch lights.
Beautiful bird with exquisite detail, Nate. I like the sweet curve of the perch and the nice bg. Well done.
I think the mirroring of the grey tail with the grey BG and the corresponding green of the bird with the green BG are also helpful in making this image more interesting. Some day I will go to South America to see hummingbirds other than Rufous or Anna.
Love the overall color palette with the complimentary BG Nate. Nice work!
Great looking bird Nate well captured. The background showcases the bird really well, and you managed to get great color from the bird on a pretty overcast day, as I recall.
Love the green on green and the nice muted background Nate, excllent shot. Ray
An awesome portrait of this beauty Nate
.
I think the soft light works perfectly here. Great perch and background too.
