Potomac Summer Eve

Here's a sunset view along the Potomac a few miles upstream from Navin's post.  Taken on Wednesday as I went roaming along the river hoping to catch a spectacular sunset.  While this isn't the spectacular colors that I was hoping for, it was a very pleasant evening, with the sound of the river, the calling of frogs and (rare for this area in July) low humidity.  (5D3, 24-70 f2.8 @ 35mm, 1/80s, f/16, iso 200, tripod)  Best viewed large.

Spectacular or not, this is a really pleasant shot that I really enjoy. Spectacular does not necessarily mean better after all! Love all those tiny islands in the river, not something you see very often.

Pretty image, Mark, nicely processed. I like the way the rocks lead diagonally to the sunset and those clouds aren't half bad either.

The starburst setting sun pulled me into this beautiful photograph.  Once there, the peaceful flow of the river made me wait in anticipation for the sun to disappear below the horizon.  It never did but I lingered long enough to enjoy this scene.  Well done!

Beautiful bold sunstar crowning a wonderfully peaceful river evening.  In my book it doesn't get more spectacular than that. The large is a treat, Mark.  The gentle ripples flowing around the rocks and streak of the setting sun reflection is very, very nice.

Understatement may be the rule here, but when it comes to Gods creation well.. Sometimes the most suble forms of beauty are best. You can quote me on thatblush

I like the sunburst that makes all the difference here, but doesn't over-power at all..

The short of it is that all elements with your frame, taken together.. far exceed expectationscool

Well done Mark!devil

Mark, consider it a nice setting all around IMO. I wish we had flowing water like this in So Cal, beyond the Pacific Ocean of course, but not the case. The sunset placement in the scene is excellent and the sunburst with it's light beam on the water is the real draw here. Nice work.....laugh

The nature has always something spectacular and maybe for this evening it was what you were feeling. Very nice picture, it reflects exactly what you describe.

Real sweet image, especially in the large size. I bet this will make a beauty of a print.

Mark,

Really nice. Living in the DC area in the summer as we do I can tell you low humidity is rare.

I really like the foreground rocks to anchor this and the cloud reflections make it a winner.
