I'm not a big fan of heat and its hot today. And its almost time to book my campsite for next January. So I figured its about time I work on some more Michigan Upper Peninsula not quite frozen waterfalls from the trip Ryan Shain and I went on last year. The upper falls presented here is 200 feet wide and 50 feet tall. This is one small section.
This one was shot about 10 feet to the left of the last one I posted back in January. I incorporated some comments from the last image into this one to tone the water highlights down a bit in the darker areas leading into the frame.
LR, Silver Efx. One different thing I did here was to add a touch of Dehaze from LR CC. It brought out some of the ice structures on the left that were more subtle.

Thanks for your thoughts as always!

10 commentsShutter speed is spot on, just enough amount of detail left to prevent the water from becoming a blurry grey blob. The contrast with the steady ice works very well!
Jeff, I really like the contrast between the sharp ice (right and middle) and the flowing water and going b&w emphasizes that contrast well. While I like this view a lot, I could also see cropping out all of the water on the far left.
Hi Jeff,
I love the larger view of this image, and one can really appreciate the details and the texture in that version. This view works well for me, and the tones are looking good.
Sweet intimate view bro
Very very good for my tastes. So original and strong composition, excellent b/w tuning, great sharpness and dynamics control.
I like it much,

This is pretty cool, Jeff. I like the rushing water of the falls against the the structure of the ice. I could also see some of the left, but it would change the whole feel of the image. This is very nice.
I love everything about this image. The choice of shutter speed, the composition and the monochrome treatment. Really think this is a winner. Great work!
Very nice contrasting textures.
Thanks for the thoughts! Interesting idea on dropping the left. I'll play with a square crop when I get home. Playing in Canada this week. For this "normal" crop I'd need to have moved left and if I recall correctly the only thing left of me was a dropoff.
@Ryan - One of these days we'll get together again! I'm about out of vacation so I'll be around more. ;)
Nicely done Jeff; that's a good mix of textures and lines.
Jeff, I like this very much! The comp works great as is for me and I love the tones. Your 1/2 sec exposure work to have nice motion in the water and still wonderful textures. I haven't been to Tahquamenon Falls for awhile and it looks like a winter trip might be nice. Good work here!
