Gallery: Macro & Close-upPosted July 3, 201593 views2 comments

The first shot of this species (Phyciodes phaon) for me. Very small & fast moving, it flitters nervously about in grasses near the ground.. And I don't crawl so well these daysenlightened

Wing Span: 1 - 1 1/2 inches & a member of the Nymphalidae family of butterflies.

F/16, 1/200th, ISO 500, 5DM2, Sigma 150mm f/2.8 + 1.4x ext + fill flash handheld around noon & partly cloudy. Significant crop on this one.

PS - Looking forward to the day I can pick up a 7DM2 with its 1.6x crop sensor for macro work..

Looks good in the larger view, Howard. Could not tell at all this was large crop. Excellent subject detail and litttle discernible noise. Really like the light on the BF's wings. Well done.

The light on the bf is great, Howard, there such a fine glow in the wing spots.  This comp. works well also.
