Taken from the garden this morning. Shot in studio with two studio flash lights (diffused). The background is a piece of blue art paper curved againt the wall.

Canon 5DM2, 100mmL macro. f/16, 1/125s, ISO100. processed in Photoshop CC2015.

While blue is my favorite color, I don't find the background working for me here. In looking through your gallery, I like the backgrounds you used in your previous studio shots much better.

Rob - Excellent portrait of the Clematis - I like the center making a slight angle to the horizontal and the great texture the narrow aperture and lighting has brought out nicely.

The background however gives an impression of pixellation - without reading what you used for the background, it is confusing.

Rob, the Clematis is great, with excellent detail and texture. The blue BG not so much. The pixelization is obvious. I hope you don't mind my working with your image, but I thought it might be instructive. What I did was select and apply a field blur of about 15% to the blue.
