Pinks and Greens

After a night in Moab for the Jeeper's Jamboree frown we headed up to the Island in the Sky for three nights. First night on some BLM land between Canyonlands and Dead Horse Point where we had this view at sunset from our camp. Soft light, red rocks, Charlie Daniels from the pop-up trailer a 1/2 mile away. Nice evening.

Great image. I enjoy the pink pastel colors, depth of field and the tree which brings a sense of perspective; it frames it nicely. I feel like my eyes are drawn to the image as a whole rather than darting everywhere.

Nice serene scene, like the soft light. Can't get enough of the Canyonlands area.     devil   Ron

Beautiful pastel colors, very nice composition, details and contrast, I like to see a sunset like this where nothing is over saturated. I like this peaceful scene. Bravo!

Sure is a nice view! Love the colors in the rocks, they are fantastic. Good choice not to inlcude the sky, that makes this scene a lot more intimate and interesting I think.

Nice campsite, Dave.  Seems like there  are no bad views around Moab.  I like the soft pastels and perfect framing.  Charlie Daniels ain't too bad either.

Looks great and sounds like a very nice time. Love the comp and the soft light, with the dark contrast of the trees. You show the layers of strata in the geology very well, also, in this more intimate view. Love it!

Nice "intimate" canyon image.  Feels a bit tight at the top, but I'm guess it goes to sky if you crop much higher, so this works pretty well.

Beautiful pastel colors and real nice scene. It does feel a bit tight at the top, but not all a deal killer. Well done.

Beautiful scene, Dave. I like the light barely touching the pine on the lower center-left.

Thanks for the feedback everyone. The tightness is due to the exact condition that Tony alluded to with regard to the sky being just above the top edge. I found that from most of the vistas on the Island in the Sky (Canyonlands NP) that all of the isolated mesa formations, such as this one and also the Candlestick Tower, it was either include some sky or have the top of the mesa very close to the edge of the frame. When the sky is bleh, I generally exclude it... a product of being a California photographer I've learned.

Hi Dave,

This image is very beautiful, and I really dig how you saw this image and framed it up for the viewer. The foreground is quite good, and the greens create a very nice contrast with the reds and browns in the rest of the image. Most of all, I enjoy the peaceful nature to this image, and some fine work!!
