One Way Out

This was taken this week around Page.  I was shooting away from the rising sun, but after turning around, I liked how the muted light on the cracked stream bed led me out of the drainage.  I cloned some bright highlights from the sky and cropped this square from a vertical shot.  It was a beatiful morning in empty country without a soul in site.

Your comments and critiques would be greatly appreciated.

Nice imaging, Gary.  The lead in here is so nice and it's destination is so remote.  Almost looks like a modern manmade walkway!

Beautiful image, Gary. The texture and reflected light n that cracked mud is wonderful and the sky is full of content. I like the square format for this composition. Nice work.

This makes for a great b/w with good texture. I like the leading line of the dry cracked playa, all the way to the lone mountain in the background. I wouldn't change it any other way.

The square format works very well here Gary, nicely composed with the dried up stream making an excellent lead in to the peak in the distance.

Gary.

Awesome image!  Your conversion to b&w is spot on, and choice of subject amazing with all elements working together to make a real winner.

The cracked stream bed is a real eye catcher, Gary.  It does a great job of meandering into the distance where that great sky takes over.

Gary:

Great old school monochrome in a very good tradition.   Reminds me of the seeing when I was hauling around a square format film Hasselblad.  Even a little more sky could be cropped without damage.

Always good to see the tones and textures of really good B&W.

Regards.   Tom

Wonderful comp, Gary, with your usual sweet B+W interpretation. I might consider a bit of selective brightening in the area of the dark MG rocks but nice as is.

Nothing to tell from me, sorry.  Only clap hands: fantastic scenario, assured composition, perfect sharpness without artifacts,

clear "neutral tone" (I think as it is a traditional print, with paper and development characters) B7W tuning.

All the best,
Sandro

Great image, the path leads the eyes directly to the mountain. Very nice details, light and contrast everything to build a success story.

Stunning, Gary, just stunning. The details and patterns in the river bed are very beautiful, and the leading line to the desolate landscape with the solitary mountain in the distance couldn't be better. A real winner!

Gary, this is a very nice square crop.  I'm really liking what you have been doing with the 14mm Rokinon.  I would like your honest opinion on it.  I'm considering it for my 7D II.

What a gorgeous and evocative black and white image. I love the patterns of the cracked stream bed leading to the light clouds on the horizon and on out to the distant hill. Sure looks like drought! So many pleasing tones and textures in this image.

Oh Boy Gary,

This image is stunning imho, and I can't think of  a thing I would change, but I have some thoughts on how this image makes me feel. The image brings me into this fine capture, and I immediately love the spiritual nature of this scene, fantastic work in photography!!!

I always seem to come in at the tail end Gary, so much has already been said..

Love the way this cracked stream bed leads your eye, excellent sense of depth.

And if I had to walk out of this place, there's only "One Way Out".

Perfect title & the squared off comp is just the ticket mandevildevil
