Park Ave.

This was taken last week in Arches. Storm light was fantastic, but we were on a family trip with a new dog that limited hiking opportunities.  Fortunately there are so many great shots close to  road, so this my official Icon alert.sad  The sun was about to set and I bet my wife if we could wait 20 minutes the light could be close to perfect.  I think I won the bet.

A classic view, but very dramatically rendered in B&W - magnificent conversion, Gary, no suggestions!

Yeah, but I suspect that your wife doesn't care...and may still be upset...frown  This is a fine look at Park Ave., especially with the stormy sky.  This is a fine look at an often seen location that in addition to the emphasis on the sky, provides a fine view along the fin.

It's always great to see an image from Arches in B&W, and this is a great, dramatic example Gary! The clouds are great, and the composition is well balanced. I might like to see a little more room between that spire on the left and the edge of the image, but that's minor.

Very dramatic B+W, Gary. I agree with Craig that a skosh more space to the left would have been desirable but not essential. I also wonder whether a bit more darkness in the shadow line (or brightness in the cliffs above) might be even more dramatic as you kind of have to look hard for the shadow. Nevertheless an outstanding image.

I happened to be in Moab a few weeks ago during the Jeeper's Jamboree week and we completely blew off Arches due to the line of 40+ vehicles lined up at the entrance station. cheeky Fortunately things were much more subdued up on the Island in the Sky and we had three great backcountry nights on the rims there. Canyonlands is amazing!

I think you won the bet. Superb light for a beautiful B&W. Very well done in any points.

Fantastic image, Gary.  Love the light on this wall and the ominous clouds.  Exquisite.  Your b/w images are simply incredible, time and time again.

Love this Gary. The sky adds wonderful drama. Maybe darken the earth below the fin to help set off the fin more?

I always plan on staying awhile to savor the LP Gary, you never disappoint.

Hope someday I could begin to approach your level of landscape expertise.

If I ever get away from the house to travel that is..

I agree with all the kudos thus far, a most excellent workdevildevil

Hi Gary,

This scene is killer good with the bet you made your wife really paying dividends. The image has a wonderful flow about it, and the light is in fact just about perfect. Those clouds up top really set this scene apart from other I have seen.

Excellent work on this image
