This is a rose from my backyard. But, the image was taken indoors in natural light.
It seems that just as these roses start to bloom they get overrun with little white bugs that damage the petals. So, to get a decent bloom to photograph it had to be cut and brought indoors before it bloomed. I think I need to find out what the bugs are and treat the plant. But, this works for now. ![]()
The naturally lighter color in the middle of the rose and along the edges of the petals produced a nice vignette.

Thanks for taking a look!

12 commentsThe light on the rose is nothing short of magical, Sanjay. I think that the indoor setup was the right call.
Aphids?
This rather dark, moody treatment suits the red rose very well. Other blooms might not fare as well.
Sanjay: Wonderful lighting and color. I agree with Phil that you may have aphids. A spray of highly diluted dish soap can often work wonders. >=))>
Thanks Phil and Bill. What a forum... photography critique AND gardening tips. Wonderful!
Yes, searched it up on the web, and looks like they are aphids. I'll try the soap solution.
Thanks a lot!

It's a neat (and quite different) view of a rose, Sanjay. The lighting is very nicely dramatic and mysterious.
The rose is very nice and beautifully photographed. I read the story, Sanja, can it be oidium? I love this vegetal heart.
Beautiful, Sanjay. The light and color give this rose an aura of mystery.
Superb effect of the light, Sanjay, the flower looking just right on the black bg - a really lovely image !!
Well deserved Sanjay!
