I was walking at my local State park, Silver Springs in Yorkville, IL, and observed an abundance on wild flowers in glorious full bloom. I wanted to capture these beauties, but needed an element to provide some contrast and help with the flow. This fallen tree limb was the man for the job. I could not capture it on the day I had wanted due to windy conditions, but two days later the timing was right.
This image was photo stacked from 5 images because of depth of field. I wanted to be nice and close to this area to really give the sense of being on the forest floor. I could not obtain the clarity I wanted otherwise with out photo stacking.
I appreciate all input on this image, and thank you for making the time to have a look

8 commentsThe curve of the fallen branch provides the perfect element to move the eye from the foreground gently back and back, traveling amidst the lush greens of spring and the almost starlike quality of the flowers. Seems like the focus stack you employed was just the ticket. Superbly done.
I like both your composition and your handling of the tone distribution. Nice.
This image does a great job conveying the lushness of spring. I really like the rich greens, nicely contrasting the fallen snag and the flowers. Very well done.
Nice intimate scene with a great leading curve. The contrast between the dead log and the fresh green plants is very effective and very typical of spring. Good job on the focus stack as well, these scenes are terrible to stack when there is wind, so I understand your planning!
A wonderful Spring image, Ryan! Your comp works great and the colors are right on the money. It makes one feel like he's right there. Good work with the focus stacking too.

A scene I probably would have walked by without a glance, Ryan, so nice job on composition of the elements and you've done a great job of assembling the parts. Not sure if the general public would appreciate the effort enough to purchase a print ("that log's kinda ugly") but the photographers here will appreciate what you've acccomplished.
The curved tree trunk is a great lead in element Ryan. It really highlights the delicate white flowers.
Nice job, Ryan. I really like how you were able to wring every ounce of impact out of this comp. It really lives up to it's title.
