Northern Bobwhite

Yet another from March 3rd.  A Canadian couple camped across the road and a few sites down saw me with my camera and invited me over.  They had a richer bird population in their campsite for some reason, and the Bobwhites were particularly cooperative.

7Dii, 300mm f4 ISL + 1.4TC, hand held, f/5.6, 1/1000, iso 800, aperture priority, center weighted average metering, no compensation.  Processed in LR5 & CS6.  I did some brightening, vibrance and saturation increase on the bird with a slight darkening and increased blur of the bg to get her to pop a bit more.  Cropped to 10.5MP from a horizontal original.  Taken March 3rd at 3:20 pm, Falcon State Park, Texas.

Thank you for all your comments,

A new species for me Dennis, thanks for showing. Nice angel of view, and tack sharp. Like the bird's pose and the hint of the other in the BG ! Good to have some nice neighbours cool, Cheers, Hans

Gorgeous detail in the feathers Dennis and well composed with the OOF bird(s) in the background. Smart move taking your neighbor up on his offer. sad

Hi Dennis!  Lovely portraight.  Great pose.  The eye is crystal clear and the good details where it counts.  Great choices for DOF and POV.  The 2 OOF birds in the background really add to the comp.  Well done!

I agree with all the comments, and it's great use of F/5.6 here.
