Peregrine Falcon

February 21, 2015 in Southern California  While circumstances at the edge of a cliff allowed us to get physically close to this Peregrine, the limb was in the sky and the bird was completely unconcerned.  Lest you think it is a zoo shot, it was taken with three other NPNers who attest that this is a wild bird.  Charlie Van Tassel, Nate Chappel and Tjie Poo were there taking their own shots while I got this one.

Nikon D800  Nikkor 200-400mm taken at 400mm  ISO500  f/6.3  1/1000  RAW  Manual  White Balance Auto

Processed in Lightroom, PhotoshopCC2014, NIK and TK

Thank you in advance for your feedback.  devil

Are you kidding me, Patrick? I have only once been this close to a Peregrine...back when I was guiding (I operated a fly fishing outfitting business for several years). Of course you can't be very effective as a guide when you've got your wildlife gear with you, so my experience remains as a captured memory. Your image here has a wonderful intensity and inherent drama to it. The stare is captivating, and the details are simply incredible. Great open light, outstanding techs and perfectly processed IMO. Another beauty!

I love the 'gentle' expression of this bird.  The pair of eyes are wonderful.  Beautifully done Patrick !    devil

Very nice, Patrick.  Who would think that such a sweet face could tear your head off at 200 mph? angel

Hi Patrick,

I like this portrait.  The soft lighting is perfect to capture the feather details and you also have some wonderful catch-lights in the eyesdevil..........................Jim
