Very cool bird and a nice side-on shot, Greg. The head looks just a trifle soft to me, but I've only seen these a couple of times several years ago at a distance, so I'm not sure what the plumage looks like there.

Thanks Luke and Hans.

Dennis, the plumage is extremely fine, but since I'm fairly new to photography I won't say the head isn't a bit soft. However I do think the soft look is a result of the very soft feathers.

Thanks for the comments.

Like it a lot Greg, killer BKG and I think in this image, the OOF blades of grass add. Cool choice in format.

keep the hard work up and the images coming.

Greg,
I agree with Dennis' comment about the head being a little soft, but it would not be as noticeable with a less tight crop. More room around the bird with more space on the right is more consistent with my taste.

Keep posting. :toast:

Nice decision on the crop Greg. I also feel the head is a touch soft.

Beautiful catch, with the soft warm colors of the bird set against a nicely oof but very complementary background.

Great capture Greg. I love these guys. They are so elegant looking. I suspect you were poised for a possible takeoff, hence the 400 ISO. If you had lowered the ISO, you still would have had plenty of shutter speed, and the image quality would have been a bit better. Just something to think about. Well done.
