Katmai Canoe Rest

My son and I went on a canoeing trip at the Katmai Wilderness Area about 8 years ago. We canoed over to an island that had a small inlet and set up our tent for about a week. I remember it being an extremely restful experience (except for the rowing). This scene lay in front of us every morning and it finally dawned on me how special it really was. We would walk down on that matted grass to the water, launch our vessel, and go look for northern pike. I took this shot as a way to remember how it had been.

It is a very peaceful, tranquil scene. The emotion you were experiencing comes across nicely in the image.

I really understand you connection with a spot like this, I always experience the same at my camping spots. Looks like a great canoe, I am always on the verge of getting one myself, but it never happens.

We rented the canoe at Brooks Lodge and it was over 20 miles to this spot. We rowed for two days. What stands out in my mind is how slow life moved and how rested I was. You would see this speck on the water and slowly, ever so slowly it got bigger. Hours later you could make out the shape of trees on what was to be an island. It was like you, water, and sky and the rhythmic rowing. Silence except for the gurgle from the oar. And an occasional sqwuak from a shoreline bird.

Igor, This is quite inviting! I just want to jump in and go paddle. I have a new canoe that I'm looking forward to trying out on a Quiet North Woods Lake!
