As the winds pick up so does the sand. Twenty minutes later it was not nice out there. Mesquite Dunes in DV last spring. So many textures...

I'll be looking for images on the dunes this coming Wednesday. Look for the guy with the ridiculously spindly but very lightweight tripod

f7.1, ISO-200, 195mm, 1/500 sec.

ETA: Just saw Harley's B+W image from DV before this one. Back to back!

Real nice Dave!! Great layers and depth and I really like your B&W processing. I might crop the bottom just a touch to lose that little sandy spot along the bottom toward the left? Very minor though.

Have a great time out there. How are the flowers? Is the heat killing them?

Good eye on that sandy spot, Harley. Although this is supposedly the best flower year of the last several, the word is that the heat is no bueno for the flowers, at least at the lower elevations. I may try getting a little higher in Jubilee Pass depending on what I see when I get there. It's supposed to be 98 degrees on Monday

Really though, it's hard to have a bad time there in the spring as I'm sure you know unless a strong wind dominates your entire experience.

Very nice Dave! My experience every time I went looking for sand dunes was to find swarms of dune buggies. The impression is of more dunes than there are due to the tonalities and textures.

I like the layers and textures along with the composition. I think I would like a little more detail in the background.

Super image, Dave. I love the scale of the layers, each larger and more ominous than the last. Beautiful b/w.

great layering and the b&w tones work well. i also picked up on the FG sandy spot (left, low). i wish for more even low contrast across the middle layer ... i.e., lower contrast to the right ... nice work, though and well conceived.

Very creative Dave. I'm trying to find which part of the closer mountains you enlarged to create the distant mountains. The shadows match perfectly. Nice job of merging.

What a great perspective. This may be the best Mesquite Flats dunes images of all time and the black and white rendition makes it all the better.

Dave, This is Excellent! The larger version is a real treat to view. I like this comp a lot and love the conditions you captured. The b&w looks and works perfect. :toast:

Great mix of elements! The processing looks good to me, although I think Stuart's suggestion is a great one.
