With a strong V like this, I hope the tree survived the fire, Preston. This is very dramatic with lots of fine detail seen in the larger version.

Preston, The detail and textures in the large version are really nice and I love the sheen this has. Looks like you caught this in the perfect light.

Hi Preston,
You nailed the texture on the charred bark--I like the details and the polished look of the black areas. Well done .......Jim

Exquisite, Preston. The sheen of the charred bark contrasts with the reds of the 'V' so very, very well. Your composition, as always, is spot on.

WAY cool image, Preston! Having spent a ton of time in the Mogollon Rim area in NE AZ growing up, I love the colours and textures of ponderosas. In fact, I just planted two on our acreage here in southern Alberta and am hoping for the best.
The contrast of the V and the black-on-black detail and textures in this one are AWESOME (and yes, the larger version takes it up another level from the 720px here). Just fantastic IMO.

Fascinating natural shape. Nice textures too. Reminds me of lava almost.

Love the subtle range of tones in the charred part of the bark. It does look like a lava flow. Very nice.
PS. I looked at some of your earlier images and thought that darkening the V in the manner of this one you did earlier would perhaps improve the color composition. Darker and more of a cinnamon brown color change.

Preston: Good vision and a superb capture. Larger version is indeed must see. I was thinking lava too. >=))>

Yeah, that's a good one! I thought lava too, as well as a wound or scar. awesome details, and color contrasts. Perhaps the finest of this type of image I can remember seeing recently and even further back.

Preston,
The texture, shapes and detail in the awesome capture are so sweet in the large version!!!! You can almost feel the texture of the charred bark with this image, and the contrast of the V is so very stimulating.
Excellent work
