I checked out my backyard looking for something to photograph and found some interesting things on our apple tree--lichens. I'm waiting for Spring and this is the greenest living thing thriving in the February cold. I ran some luminosity masks to bring up some hidden details on the final image after stacking. K5 IIs 180mm f3.5, fill flash -2.67ev (1/60sec at f18, ISO 200).....................Jim

Jim: This is very cool. I love intimate discoveries like this and think the textures and details in the larger version are especially pleasing. Well seen.>=))>

You have good detail on the lichens and bark, but I especially like the color palette, bright and eye-catching, yet very realistic.

Yes you did a good job of bringing out the shadow details in a believable way. Lichens such as these crustose and foliose ones offer great texture and detail opportunities. In recently glaciated areas the growth rates of the lichens can be used to establish the interval since ice retreat. This arcane field is called Lichenometry...

I like the splash of color the lichens add to the scene. Wonderful detail especially in the larger version.

A beautiful little study on the Lichen's Jim. I appreciate the larger version for all the details and textures the image offers. The scattered greens work very well on balancing out the image, so nice eye with the comp and nice work on this.

Lots of great detail and texture here, Jim. Shots like this are hard to capture and you've done very well here. I especially like the depth that your stack caught with the wood showing nicely at the bottom of the cracks.

I'm lichen this, Jim. I love subjects like this. Until I read this was a tree, I honestly thought it was rock--wow! I like all the details and color. You could use a 'super darks' mask to drop those values just a wee bit.
