The trees in Kingwood, Texas are still turning colors and made a great painted backdrop for one of the dozen or so White Pelicans winter in the area. They show up morning and evening looking for some cormorants to follow and steal a fish or two. the unseasonable warm winter may send them home too soon,

I love the artistic look to this - it has a real nice painted feel to it. However, I wish the bird were much lower in the composition (lower left hand quarter)

Rick, this is really beautiful. Very artistic. Has a painterly feel to it. Really like this.

I really love the composition - the very subtle details in the dark background truly add to the beauty of the pelican and reflection!

Lovely shot and good comp adding to the visual contrast of light and dark. Viewed large the surface colour reflections hint at chroma noise and makes things look a bit muddy and distracting. Really, 1200 pixels wide is really not big enough to be called 'large' and this should be at least 2000 to see better. (irritated rant at the Site, not you)

Rick: This is fantastic! Love the color in the water and the pelican is placed in the frame perfectly. Really nice whites in the feathers as well. On a different subject, which 2x are you using with your 70-400? I have a Kenko 1.4x that I'm pretty happy with and the price was right but have some trepidation about a 3rd party 2x. Of course I'm shooting the A77 so my effective mag is 840mm so I'm not sure I really need the extra length for my typical shooting. Would appreciate your thoughts. >=))>

Just beautiful Rick, you could play with cropping of course but I like this very much as is.

Rick ..this is a beautifully crafted image. I love the subtle colors in the water and the mood in the image overall. As Luke mentioned could the bird be a tad bit lower in the frame?
