Snowy Slumber

Maybe a bit of a different take on this week's theme, but it's the image that came to mind when I saw the "relaxing nature shots" challenge.

This guy must have had quite an afternoon, because he was zonked when we spotted him bedded down in front of this cabin in Waterton Lakes National Park last spring. In fact, it wasn't even snowing in my initial sequence of compositions, then lightly snowing, then coming down hard. We left him pretty much completely covered in snow, still peacefully sleeping away the day. (And yes, this is a male fox.)

Comments and critiques welcome of course! And if you have time, feel free to click through to the LARGER version.

Incredible image which really evokes emotion and a sense of cold.

What a wonderful shot :toast: I can't decide, if this might benefit from a crop at the top or not. I like, that he is dwarfed by the wall, but it might be one board too tall. The variation in the snow color and texture from white fluff to transparent "smudges" is really quite lovely.

Big soft snowflakes are always very relaxing for me (and we get a lot them where I live) but the sacked out fox really makes the mood in this shot, John! A very nice capture. The exposure and colors are excellent and I like the detail in the fox and the foreground snow. Great shot! :toast:

Neat view, John, with the heavy snow and the fine color coordination between the fox and the cabin. The image is great, but in this case I wish your signature was on the other side of the frame.

John: Had to comment on this after seeing your recent M&N post. I really like your decisions regarding SS and DOF. Superbly crafted image.>=))>
