Snipe in habitat

Common Snipe
I 've said a few times on this forum about not liking low angles and reflections too much. This picture shows partly why. One of the few times I turn the camera vertical, purely because it looks strange cutting a reflection in half. The result is an image with the subject small and not a lot of cropping choice.
Good enviro shot I suppose ! I am still striving to get my shots in a natural setting but its not always that easy. Hope you like

Sigma 50-500mm.

Unable to get out doors like some  at the moment so this one from the files.

John: This is very nice. The habitat really adds a lot of interest in this image. The choice of a vertical composition works well. I don't think the subject looks small at all. Nicely captured.

John, I echo Keith's sentiments. I like this as both a habitat and a reflection image. The vertical comp brings it together wonderfully. :toast:

John, I don't get too bent out of shape with habitat, especially one as photogenic as this one. I agree with Keith's remarks wholeheartedly.

I like this a lot, John. I really like the reflection and the bit of bright patterned water on the reflection's head. really a nice comp, and I agree that the subject doesn't look small.

Thanks again
Glad someone likes habitat jobs
I have this intense desire before I slither off this globular blob in space , to get bird pics with "messy" backgrounds (or "natural" should I say), to look reasonable - and be more accepted in bird photography circles. Could be a hard job I reckon.

I respectfully disagree, John. This is a very strong shot of this secretive species, with enough habitat to emphasize the cryptic coloration but still enough bird that it dominates the shot. Excellent, I'd say.

I love it. I shoot birds with a landscape photograph in mind. After all, I am not publishing a Field Book. I like the landscape photograph look in this shot and the detail is exquisite.

Very nice image. The habitat inclusion really makes this image for me. The habitat colors nicely compliment the snipe. You captured a nice reflection and pose. Well done.

John, my comments basically echo Keith's below. I like this and don't think the bird look to small in the frame.
