Blue Ice

Sigma DP3 Merrill, f8 / 1,6 sec. / IS0 100 taken from the Iceland trip last year in the small river that runs from the lagoon to the sea at Jökulsárlón. At the right time of day depending on the tide the water can be very calm and flows only very slowly.

Cheers, Mark

Interesting textures in the ice flow. Almost like reptile skin on the bottom half. There is almost a blue monotone to the whole image which makes it one dimensional. The larger image seems to have a wider tonal range and that improves the image greatly.

Very nice image, but I would reduce the overall blue somewhat.

Mark, This is lovely and thanks for posting in Photo Art Gallery, but this belongs over in the Landscape Gallery where I'm moving it.

Sweet ice image, Mark. Love the textures. It is very blue in the 720, but much better larger. I agree with reducing the blue somewhat.

Definitely, very blue. You've got some fine textures in the ice and the tunnel through adds nicely to the sense of depth. Welcome to NPN.

The texture and designs of the ice is great. Your composition good. I wasn't there, co I don't know what the actual color of the scene was, but this does seem a bit blue to me.

Pretty interesting subject. I think increasing the contrast would make this pop a bit more - as it is seems a bit too monotone as mentioned.

Many thanks (albeit here a bit late) :-) The blue colour is stronger than it was in real life though the different shades of turquoise were very definitely present ;-) This is not meant to be a documentation of 'real life' but my interpretation of the scene and whilst not to everybody's taste, this was very much desired and very carefully and deliberately chosen as the finish I wished to achieve ;-)
Cheers, Mark
