West Coast Winter

I saw this storm roaring onto the coast while spending the day in Uclulet on the west coast of the island. It's a blend of two exposures, one for the water motion and a second to get a bit of motion in the sky.I think it portrays winter weather here quite nicely.

what a lovely composition Bill. I really like how you used the water as leading element and sky colors.

Very evocative image, Bill, of an approaching west coast winter storm, at least from what this Californian vaguely remembers. Great detail, SS, leading lines and super ominous sky. :toast:

Bill, I like this alot! Nice work on the comp and the two exposures bringing this image together. The water flow looks great and you have some wonderful texture and details. I like the sky / clouds and what they add as well, I think you really captured the mood from this place at this time! I do see a red curvy line in the upper part of the rocks on the right side and don't really know what that is? Maybe a rope or something like that. Excellent image IMO!

Beautiful, Bill! Excellent comp, beautiful colors. Is there a mask edge on the rock/water edge? It kind of looks like a white line? Regardless, sweet image.

Powerful image Bill. Processing looks great, with nice details all around but especially in the water. Only suggestion would be to slightly crop the top but it works pretty well as is.

As with most images here, looks better the larger it gets. The "ropey" item? Kelp to make a guess. Clever idea to use separate motion exposures for sky and sea. I have used vertical pans of sorts with medium format to achieve near far focus when not otherwise available. Will have to keep your idea in the available bag.

Lots to enjoy in this seascape, Bill. The drama in the sky helps set the mood and your use of diagonals adds additional visual tension to the scene. I really like what you have put together here.

Sweet image, Bill. I really like how you've dealt with the sky and water in separate exposures. The red line has been mentioned and I think it is probably worth removing. Good to see you back posting again, always enjoyable. :wavey:

No nits for me Bill, this works perfect as it is! Especially the clouds are perfect. I was also wondering about the orange thing on the rock, but knowing that it has a natural cause (and not a rope for example) it doesn't bother me at all.

Bill, I sure do like the sense of motion (and the color) in the "stream" of water. It angles across the frame very nicely also. The stormy sky fits the scene perfectly. I would try a bit of dodging on the foreground rock, but without seeing the result, I'm not convinced that it would be an improvement.

Nice detail in the water Bill. I'm wondering if a slightly higher vantage would have helped to provide a bit more separation between the rocks on the right and the rocky mound in the background. Certainly not a dealbreaker, I just find that there is some tension in that spot, making it difficult for my eye to explore the rest of the scene. And since it hasn't been mentioned I would also clone out the multiple spray/dust spots found throughout the sky. :wavey:
