Peregrine Over Hudson

Very cold morning, a Peregrine Falcon perched on the side of a cliff, the Palisades, New jersey. Background is ice flowing down the Hudson River. Thanks, comments and critique welcomed, Ray. Nikon D800 with 500mm f4 lens, ISO 400, shutter 1/320. Tripod.

Hi Ray,

There's a small amount of grain in the clouds, but not strong enough to distract from the subject. Rock texture and peregrine are very nice...........Jim

Ray: I think this is a very strong image. The peregrine perched on the edge of the cliff really tells a nice story, especially with the water/ice background. I like the composition and the strong use of negative space in the image. A round of noise reduction in the blue would make it into an excellent print.

Hi this is really beautiful. I love the blue colors and the contracting yellow in the beach and talons. I can see a little grain in the larger photo. This should be a magazine cover!

I do agree with the previous comments and learned a bit about negative space from this image. I just wonder where you were perched to capture this image. I am acrophobic so I am very impressed.

Really digging this one Ray. I really like the framing, the space, the DOF and the techs are great. My only very small nit is the the noise in the sky with Keith already brought up. Not sure why so much noise at ISO 400 but guessing it is somewhat of a large crop? If so, I hope you have plenty enough after a crop to print this large, because it is definitely a wall hanger.

Thanks all for the comments and critique. I'll work on the noise in the background of the image. Harry I am pretty scared of heights myself. The falcon was about 30 feet below me but I was on firm ground at the top of the cliff. Fortunately there was a stone wall about waist high between me and the edge, so I felt a little more secure.

This is a nice shot of the Falcon in its environment. Very nice detail, best seen in the larger photo. :toast:

I go along with all the other comments, Ray--this is really nice. it gives a great sense of the cliff habitat these falcons love.

Excellent use of the negative space as stated, and the image tells a story Ray.

Love the blues and ice of the Hudson here, great comp.
