Say's Phoebe

This is another shot of the same Phoebe I posted in late December.

This image was right after the bird landed on the perch, hence the head angle and look.
I'm sure some will object to the lack of eye contact, but I found the entire pose interesting and decided to share this one for comments.

Canon 7D Mark II
500mm f/4
1/2000 @ f/6.3
ISO 640

Cropped from a horizontal.
NR on the background.

Another stellar image, Keith! You nailed the timing on this one. The lack of eye contact doesn't bother me in this image, it's nice to see something different. I also love the smooth, creamy background!

Nice pose and good detail in the bird. I like the diagonal perch and the complimentary background. I also like the crop.

Yeah, this one is pretty close to perfect in my books, Keith. I love the comp and the Phoebe's pose and position, and am if anything attracted to the head angle with restricted view of the eyes...it adds some interest and drama for me. While there is much to applaud here, it's gotta be the gorgeous reds and overall colour palette that stands out the most. Just a gorgeous image to view (and soak in for a while).

Keith I read with interest your point about head angle and eye contact, I like this a lot and will think differently when looking at some of my own efforts, that b/g is super.

Keith.

From edge to edge, this one's a beauty Keith :toast:

The moment you captured as the phoebe alighted tells a great story in my opinion. Wonderful body, wing and tail positions. That perch is simply awesome too.

Sweet Photo!

I can't add to what has already been said, except this reeks of an action of the moment most appropriately. It does what the best images do—tells a story!

I believe the perch is Yaupon (Ilex vomitoria), unless I am mistaken. :toast:

This is an awesome image Keith. Please tell me if I'm wrong but is this an example of extreme patience. So often it seems that if the great shot doesn't happen quickly we move on. I have the feeling that you chose this subject and perch and exercised a lot of patience before you got the killer shot. Some fantastic action captured. :toast:

John asked if this was a result of patience. It was a bit of patience and observation. These little birds (like many) can be observed in a repeatable pattern. Flying from one location to another, landing on perches that are pretty close at each location each time. Waiting and watching, waiting and watching and being prepared when it landed here was the reward.

Playing catch up from not having much time lately Keith. Glad to see another form this series. I like the pose in this a lot. The yes don't bother me in this because he is watching his footwork and it tells a story about his behavior. Nice work!
