Snowy Egret "Dredging"
by Bill Leggett
I have been shooting with Olympus gear for the past 40 years, and I stayed with it in 2004 when I made the digital switch. Although I have taken lots of excellent images with the Olympus, after seeing what the Canon shooters have done with bird photography, and with the valuable advice of Keith Bauer, a few weeks ago I jumped ship and moved over to Canon. At this point I am still working on the learning curve. I have only two lenses, a 17-40 that Keith sold me and the new 100-400 plus the 1.4X, which were used for this image. The 400 f4 is on order, so hope to get it soon.
This was my first effort with the Canon, taken late morning Monday from the fishing pier next to Gulfport harbor. This Snowy was doing one of its typical fishing techniques by tramping one foot in the shallows to stir up its prey. Cropped to 4:3 aspect from 3:2. Larger image included.

Details look great. Excellent handling of the whites. I'm sure the new system will serve you very well. Anxious to hear when you get the new 400.
