Wahclella Falls

From the Columbia River Gorge. This was my first trip to that marvelous region and certainly won't be my last.

Techs:

Canon 5D Mark III
17-40 f/4 L @ 17mm
2 seconds @ f/14
ISO 125

Larger version provided. Jpeg compression is not helping on this one to fit within the size limits.

Thanks for taking a look and providing your insights.

Not a bad comp and I like the shutter speed. Maybe a tad more detail in the main waterfall and also could use a touch of sharpening which might just be the jpeg compression you mentioned. Overall, a fairly strong image and a comp I haven't seen from this oft-shot area. Nice work.

It is a nice comp at this location, must have climbed the big rock or waded.
The fall is blown, but almost impossible to not do that at Wahclella,
It is so big and bright in the dark grotto....
i would bring it down at tad, the greens are a bit yellow.
Overall, a nice take at this difficult to do right location.....

you are hungry to bite at such an iconic location! the comp works for me with the compelling "Vee" in the FG. Shutter speed's fine but a quicker one would bring out some more detail in the FG water. Obviously, there are many out there who would have blended about ten exposures here - FG water, waterfall water, stacked focuses, highlights, shadows, etc etc etc. To pop it all in one exposure is brave as well!

Lovely! Saturation is spot on, and composition is very nice as well. My only nit is the weird horizontal "duplication" at the top, giving some blurry parts and some double parts as well (hard to explain, but look for it and you'll see what I mean).

Like this comp a lot. Agree with the comments regarding the softness and the main waterfall SS. Roel's right about some cloning or canvas expansion on the top edge that seems to be overdone and/or too obvious. Cool spot...

Lovely :toast: only nit...I'd level the water below the falls.

Nice composition, Keith. Although I agree that the falls look a bit overexposed, I think you could recover some detail in post. Your choice of 2 seconds seems a bit long. I would think that between 1/4 and 1/2 second might be a better option.

I'm guessing this is the lens you sold me

This is a nice composition! This is a quiet strong image. I would like to see some more details in the falls

this is nice, Keith. Wonderful flow and balance. the waterfall is a bit structureless but not a deal breaker for me. Nice work

Terrific greens and great eye movement through the water leading back to the falls. Sure looks lush and inviting. I do see what Roel has pointed out along the top ~10%.
