Rock and Sand

I wanted to bring out the grittiness of the rock and sand in this small scene from a local river. For a sense of scale the reddish rock near center is about 6 inches across. This is 7 shots stacked for dof, then processed in ARC, NIK CEP4 and PS6. Compression is killing the larger version what can I say. Thanks for looking.

Bruce, The soft light here looks wonderful and the colors are beautiful. What really stands out in this for me is the textures which really show in the large version. The only thing I might do would be to crop the right edge just enough to eliminate the brighter rock on the upper right. A pretty small thing but it does seem to draw my eye to that edge.

Some really interesting shapes you captured here, I am a real sucker for this type of stuff. I agree with Nick about the brighter part in the urc, and I might increase the brightness a bit.
I am a bit puzzled about the texture of the sand, which is far from smooth. Is this after rain maybe?

Roel yes the texture of the sand is what motivated me to shoot this image. First, it is very coarse sand and earlier that morning the sand was frozen and both rocks and sand were covered with thick frost. I've seen this before where freezing can affect sand or soil in interesting ways when it thaws.

This is a really unusual image for me. Aside from what it actually is it suggests many other things. The sand looks almost organic - alive. With the light and colors there is almost a science fiction sense to this image. Great seeing and interpretation of what is basically just rocks and sand.

This quite the interesting capture Bruce. I will echo the idea of the sand looking alive. In this image, the sand seems to have pores and it looks to be enveloping the rocks. The textures and graphic nature of this image are very strong, and I am enjoying this unique capture very much.

Very well converyed

The details here are amazing, Bruce, and yes, much of that is from the texture in the sand. I also really like all of the subtle colors. While I wouldn't crop that rock edge near the top right, I would burn it in to reduce how much attention it pulls.

Love the details and textures of this image, Bruce, expertly rendered. I like the black blacks and I don't have a problem with the rock on the right edge at all.
