I guess I'm going through my Coot phase. Here's another one. I like the calm water and reflection on this one. Processed using Lightroom 5 and Photoshop CC 2014. Comments and critiques welcome.

Canon 7D Mark II
Canon 200-400 f4 L IS
f7.1
1/2500s
ISO 640
Focal Length 560mm (Teleconverter Engaged)

Nice work on those difficult whites and blacks, Jerry. If it were mine, I'd compose it to be just a little less centered in the frame, giving the bird a little more virtual room to swim into.

My wife, and ornithologist, calls them Ivory-billed Mudsuckers...

Lovely detail in the dark feathers and white also looks good, calm reflective shot.

Jerry,
I agree with Jim's comments and wonder if a crop not so tight would make a better esthetic. Here in California we think of Coots as Raptor hors d'oeuvres. Keep posting and commenting, we all appreciate it. :toast:

Good work on the black plumage and ivory bill. I know the ripples add to the picture, but I believe you could stretch or clone more room on the left.

Jerry, great job on the blacks. This image has a very calm feeling to it. And...I think I'm ok with your choice of crop and I definitely like the ripples. The water is fantastic! A little head turn to you would have been nice, but you captured a nice solid shot of this coot. :toast:
