Different Perch

This is actually a different owl than my previous post. This comes from the day after Thanksgiving at a beach closer to my house. There was one here last year so there's a chance it's the same bird (haven't compared photos yet). When my wife and I originally found the bird it was on a mound of sand in a washout area (like how they are usually seen). We took some photos and left - walking to a nearby inlet. Upon our return someone got too close and it flew onto this perch which made for a unique photo opportunity. Before this year with this bird and the previous post, I'd never seen a snowy that wasn't sitting on the beach or on a dune.

Hey Luke,
Should have quit while you were ahead, no comparison to the previous Owl post. Not much in focus and the whites on the Owl are blown from what I'm seeing on my monitor, it is a very nice scene however. Nice to see you so active with posting , commenting and forum opinions lately.
When does your membership expire ?

I don't think the whites are hot, so I disagree with Mikey there. But if it were mine I'd have tried some shots with the aperture at f11 of even smaller, and tried to get more DOF. But I really like the composition otherwise. Knowing how big these birds are conveys a really nice sense of space. And the snag perch is outstanding.

I agree with Mikey that it's an absolute pleasure to see you more active on NPN, Luke.

Luke I like the Owl in it's habitat, sure wish we had them, I'm ok with the whites.

Luke,
Wonderful layout and composition. Too bad you did not have more glass for this shot. If the bird were in better focus it would be a killer shot. :toast:

Thanks to those commenters so far. The whites are not blown - I have many photos with the bird on this perch and I know I used some different apertures, I will look for something around f/11 and see what I have. Thought this was in good focus as well, but maybe not the sharpest. I'll post a different one later today or tomorrow, thanks again

I'll agree with Jim. The DOF makes this look a little weird. The alternative would be a pano crop. Glad you are back aboard.
