I wish i did not have to crop the sumac perch. but this sweet bird insisted on perching at the end far from the sumac bloom. ... with the low light. i had to use f/6.3. and iso 1000. i focused on the eye and hoped i would get enough DOF for most of the chickadee.comments appreciated. please see large version..

D600.. 150mm macro f/6.3. 1/500 sec.. iso1000. tripod..

Albert,
I totally understand your wishes for this image. This has all the making of a superb image. Tack sharp bird head and eye, creamy awesome background, nice perch with color and no distractions, and excellent exposure. Too bad about the limited depth of field, and the chickadee looking the other way. It's not a deal killer as it is quite captivating regardless.

Nice technically sound image. Do you have any with the chickadee looking into the frame, rather than out of the frame? With the position and direction the bird is looking it feels unbalanced.

I like this. :toast: Nicely angled perch with the colorful bloom. Great background and detail in the chickadee.

Great capture of this little guy. I do agree with the rest about the direction he is looking. If you have more space on the right, I would be tempted to move the bird to the left and crop out the red portion.

I like the detail on the chickadee and the very soft background. I can see how it would be better to get him closer to the center of the image, but what can you do? They do have their own minds

Technically, it's very good, although a little more depth of field on the bird would be ideal. But the bird looking out of the image "breaks" the shot for me. Probably by limited taste, but it feels lopsided, and makes me wonder what the bird is seeing that we aren't.
