Lunar Eclipse
by Keith Bauer
This is one of my favorite creations from 2014.
This was done completely in camera. This is not a Photoshop composite, hence my post in the landscape gallery.
The only thing done to this image in post processing was a small crop from the bottom.
April 15, 2014 there was a full lunar eclipse visible and fortunately it was clear where I live. I've photographed the lunar eclipse many times and wanted to see if I could do something different.
This 10 image in camera multiple exposure was captured with my Canon 5D Mark III using a 100-400mm lens. I started in the upper left at 400mm and each subsequent exposure I zoomed the lens out a bit and moved the camera to place the next moon in the final arc presented. The really cool (and lucky) part was the placement of the brighter white star (Spica I'm told) that arced across the path of the moon during my multiple exposure process. I was fortunate that it didn't merge with one of the moons.
Hope you enjoy this image. Larger version included.

12 commentsNice job with the eclipse. I like the gentle curves of the paths of star and moon
