Birch Bark Scan

by Catherine Reilly

Gallery: FloraPosted December 27, 20141,092 views10 comments
Perusing my neighborhood while walking my dog I chanced to find a piece of birch bark. Then began the search for leaves still in a fair condition. Then home with our treasures to scan them.

Epson Artisan 730 All-in-One using the scanner. In Ps 5, minimal cloning to mend a few tears in the very thin sheet of bark.

Hope you enjoy this something of flora a little bit different… Comments and suggestions welcome.

Very nice. Personally, I would crop out the white in the upper part of your photo.

Catherine: Way cool. I like it! I also think the white could go away but this was really well conceived and superbly rendered. 2 thumbs up! >=))>

Wow, great idea. The bark looks like cotton fabric! I would also take out the white at the top, but this is a fun type of art.

Way cool, Catherine! I clicked on the thumbnail mostly out of curiosity and am glad I did! As others have said, very well conceived and executed. While I can't disagree with the probable improvement of losing the white at the top, it does add something to the frame. Either way this is a really neat and creative image.

Nice art work Catherine. Not sure if you kept the top white for a purpose..I would have cropped that out...
Very interesting..

Nicely envisioned work of art. Think it would look better without the light bark at the top. :toast:

Great idea, Catherine, executed in lovely tones. I find the composition split between a kind of Japanese minimalism and a fun suggestion of a face, so not completely sure how to respond mood-wise ! Would like to see more of this kind of thing - it's very creative.
