October, Round Pond
by Wayne Jones
I got some nice light and clouds in early October at Round Pond in the Dix Mountain Wilderness Area of the Adirondack Forest Preserve. (The place is getting famous; I never saw another photographer there in the past, but on this morning I saw three other people -- all with tripods -- from Japan, Canada, and the US.)
You may notice the beaver cuttings in the foreground. If the beaver population persists there, it will spell the end to the paper birches that make this site so beautiful. But that's the way Nature works. The beaver is one of the biggest influences on forest cover change in the Adirondacks. Without them, it would be pretty much unbroken forest.
PLEASE SEE LARGER VERSION.
Canon 5D Mark III; 24-105 mm.; Circ. Pol.
1/13 Sec. @ f/16; ISO 160
5 Vertical frames stitched in PSCC
Cropped to 16:9 ratio -- been using that a lot lately
All critiques and suggestions welcome. (I'll try to post another crop of this tomorrow. Sorry I have been absent for a couple of weeks -- holiday preparations, including cutting down the family album photo book from 65 pages to 48. It was a busy year!)
