Lone Tree on the Barren Praire

This was taken back in April and I've been meaning to post it for awhile now. Given that this weeks challenge is small in the frame, I thought this would be an appropriate time. Appreciate your thoughts, thanks for looking.

This shows off a prairie scene very well, Carey. The tree is well placed. I like how you've got that clear area winding it's way towards the tree and the fence line along the crest of the hell adds a nice touch of humanity. When I was growing up on the prairies of Nebraska, the directions to someone's house often included "turn right at the lone tree" and this sure speaks such directions. I don't know if the darkening of the sky is natural or something that you worked on. While I like the transition, it feels too dark at the top for me.

The B&W conversion is ideal for this sort of image. Even though the tree is so far away and so small, the surroundings are sufficiently uncluttered that the viewer's eye is always drawn to the tree. Great shot!

I love the sense of space that the tree gives to this picture. I also like the tonal transition in the sky very much - wether natural or added in post-processing, I think that it adds a lot to the image, bu focusing attention on the horizon and the tree.

Where was this taken? Sure reminds me of Kansas. I think you could consider a crop from the top, less sky more focus on the tree and prairie. Thanks for sharing.

B&w works well for this scene because the gradient tones and foreground contrasts are very important here. The tree is still the primary subject, despite it's small size. Nicely shot, Carey.

Thanks for commenting everyone.

John this shot was taken near Vermillion Alberta. I think a crop as you suggested would work as well for this image but then again someone would probably comment on the horizon being split if I did  . Mark I wanted this to feel a little dark and moody, which is also why I didn't crop it tighterl. I was trying to create a feeling of loneliness and isolation and I think the darkness and negative space helps to create that.
