Turbulent Patience

Water and stone amaze me. This is part of Warren Falls near Warren, VT. Took me quite awhile to figure that out as this is from 2008. Good reminder to me to take an image of trailhead signs.

The title comes from how the two parts of the photo come together for me. The stone is so calm and patient as it is ever so slowly worn away by the chaotic water bouncing all around. I certainly feel that way at times.

Thanks for your thoughts,
Jeff

I like this as posted Jeff. My only reservation is the very top of the image above the stone. The dark area at the upper left bothers me. Not sure what suggestion to make - maybe a crop. Love the comp in the rest of the image and your conversion.

Cool view, Jeff. Has me thinking of a washing machine with all of the swirling waters and curves in the stone. It's a fine combination of action and stability.

I didn't like the top left corner either now that you remind me...I was framed in tight enough that I didn't want to crop or rotate as I'd lose too much of the falls on either end. A quick adjustment to the area improves it I think. It added a bit of noise, but I should be able to clean that up when I'm not late for work. ;)

Thanks!

Edit: Looks a lot darker in the top left in the smaller 720 sizes as well.

I like the energy in this image, Jeff. Nice comp making use of the swirls and motion. Well done.

I like the repost Jeff and there's not enough noise to bother me. I don't see it on my 13 in macbook.

It's a fine image, Jeff, and the re-post is an improvement. Can't crop that corner away or you'd lose the top of that sweet little waterfall. In fact I would not mind a smidge more room at the top above that horizontal line of the rock because it's a bit tight to the edge.
Beautiful work nonetheless :toast:

The repost works for me. The tones in this are nicely done. I agree with Dave in that a bit more room at the top would be a good idea. The lines in the rock and the turbulent water provides an interesting dynamic.

Quite a nice scene of shapes and tones. It works well in B&W. It is a bit tight at the top, but the repost is a nice improvement.

I went back to the beginning and found I still had a smidge for the top. I had rotated a pretty good amount and cropped tight down to that edge. Take 3!

Great comp of an amazing waterfall, Jeff. (Congrats on finding that extra bit at the top.) The conversion looks good, too -- very film-like. It's amazing that the rock almost seems to be flowing like the water.

Jeff, Third one is the charm! :toast: I like the b&w look here and as Wayne mentioned it does have a film like feel. The flow of water and rock is very cool here.

Hi Jeff,

Nice to see a fellow photographer on here from IL.

I really like what you have come up with in the 3rd repost. I think it works very well with the extra room up top, and the tones and lines are wonderful.

Beautiful vision and capture.
