Utakleiv dream

Hi all,
this was taken in August 2014 in Utakleiv beach, Vestvågøya, Lofoten islands, Norway.
A quite classic shot with long exposure, waves, and an approaching storm that litterally soaked me and my stuff one minute later.

Thank you for looking.

P.S. the version I posted is oversaturated, something went wrong with web-reduction.
Check "purchase print" for a better version...sorry

Eos 5D MkII, 40mm, f/20, 75 sec, ISO 50, tripod, cable release and a heavy jacket ;)

Hi Riccardo, you can delete the original and repost the corrected image if you want to have a large version or you can post a redone image 700px maximum on long side as a comment. Hope this helps.

Super colors, shapes and vision here - but the SS is too long for me, distorting the water into something almost unrecognizable, but that's certainly opinion and I'm sure there are many who enjoy this look

I like the texture of the rocks and the sand. The sliver of sky is OK. The ocean is just a wash of streaky color. Sorry, but the mix just doesn't do it for me. Others may certainly think differently.

Contrary to the others I like the surreal appearance of this though the colours still seem very strong. The opposing hues of red and cyan are a powerful combination and the shapes of the stones are seductive. It works just fine for me and I like the separation that the gaseous spray provides between the rocks at the tide line.

I agree with Ian's comments. I would, however, crop the top to eliminate the sliver of sky and land.

I'm one of those who enjoy the water this way Riccardo. I like the shapes of the stones in the mist-like water and I also like the colors in this. Moody and beautiful for my tastes. No suggestions.

This is great, Riccardo. The washes of color and the scattered stones both above and below the water create a near abstract with some lovely tones and textures. The repost is a subtle improvement with a touch more "clarity" in the foreground land.

I love this composition with interesting elements in the foreground as well as in the distance. The water ties it all together quite beautifully.

Thank you all for your comments and critiques! :)
The long shutter SS was used to create a sort of surreal atmosphere, with "mist" between rocks and lost of detail in water and sky, somehow simplifying the image, but I'm conscious that this effect is not always welcome and I'm glad to read different and frank opinions! I must admit that the color treatment of this shot is troubling me...I'm not able to find the right equilibrium between contrast and colors.

I like it, Riccardo. I think the long shutter speed here is fine as an artistic decision. I like the color and the shadows of rocks beneath the water as well. The foreground rock as the most prominent element isn't quite interesting enough to hold attention long, but overall the image works for me.

I have no problem with the long SS and the dreamy look to the water. The color saturation enhances the effect. I'm a bit on the fence about the sky and land in the distance. While they help provide context, I think the image might be stronger without. Congrats on the WP, Riccardo :toast:
