Cooling The Flames
by Zack Clothier
I was cruising around some backroads near my home in Montana this past summer when I spotted a charred tree up on a hill, most likely left over from the 88' fires in Yellowstone. I climbed up to get a better look and realized that the base of the tree had been hollowed out from the fire, and that it was large enough to climb inside and so I did.
Once inside the tree I began focusing on the intricate patterns that surrounded me. With the sun coming over my left shoulder I used my bright red jacket as sort of a big reflector, enhancing the reds that were already present in parts of the wood. The blue sky was reflecting off the wood near the top, and helped to create a nice warm/cool contrast.
Thanks for looking and for any feedback, don't forget to check out the larger version!

14 commentsI was hoping that the flaming red color didn't come from actual flames.
Another year of nice colors that didn't last long back home. Glad to see your creativity continuing to blossom on the west.
