Last Saturday after getting back from Lake Superior I made a trip to a State Natural Area about 40 miles from my home. There were lots of photographers there that day but I still had a good time trying to make a couple of new image from the area. This is one that I made that day and just had to walk up the creek a little ways with waders. Thanks for any thoughts on it you might have. The large version works better.
5D3, 50mm, ISO 400, F/16 at 3.2 seconds. CPL.
I'm heading out to set up a 3 day photography show right now but will be able to get back on the computer in the evenings.

Brilliant image. I really like the concentration of leaves in the background and their slow distribution into the foreground. It looks a touch crooked though

Fantastic image of a special place for sure. I could see a bit of a crop from both sides but just fine as presented. I think that any perceived crookedness is an optical illusion on the smaller version due to the line of the leaves near the falls... the reflections do line up.

Excellent light and comp, Nick. The smattering of autumn warmth; with the leaves and reflection; throughout the scene make for some nice eye candy. I also like your POV with the rock formations. Congrats on your show and I hope you make some sales.

Very nice composition with the slow parade of leaves moving past. The overlapping walls give the impression of looking back into a cave. I get the feeling it's tilted clockwise a bit. Maybe just me.

Excellent. I really like this. This has a beautifully peaceful mood with the placid water and fallen leaves. I also like the texture and colors of the rocks. Really nice job Nick.

This is really sweet, Nick. Great job holding detail in the shadows. I like the arching rocks and the leaves on the water. Excellent!

I could see going for a tighter crop to simplify this a bit, but it looks good as presented.

Love the mood and the comp in this Nick. Gorgeous image. I might tilt it a touch CCW but very minor.

Nick, I sure wish I could have been on this outing. WOW, what a really neat place. From my perspective, no changes needed, just make a big print. The larger version just sings !!!...... :toast:

Beautiful...love the reflections and the framing.

I was planning to head out that direction this weekend. Now I have to go whether I bring a camera or not.

An extraordinary composition to me, Nick! I especially enjoy the way you show the solid rocks together with the weightless look of the leafes on the surface of the creek.

I just think about a bit more contrast in the foreground rocks at the left, but that is only a minor matter for me. Fantastic image as it is to my eye!

Thanks so much guys for all of your comments on this! I really appreciate hearing your thoughts. I got the show all set up yesterday and getting ready to head back over there for the next 3 days now. I wish I had a little more time to comment on the new images I'm seeing here but have to get going. I'll try and get back on here tonight. Again, Thanks! Nick

Great scene you captured. The small waterfall is a nice centerpiece, really draws me in as it's tones are so different from the rest of the image.I might have tried - and maybe you did a tight vertical of the falls and the natural stone arch created around and in the reflection. Regarding any skew, I might suggest leveling the base of the waterfall and let the rest of the image fall where it will. Viewers need a reference to base a level image on, and this might be the obvious point as the eye quickly goes to the falls. :toast:

This is great, Nick. The different layers and dampness create a fine feeling of being right there and the sharp floating leaves leading back to the falls add lots of depth. I'm astonished that the leaves are sharp given a 3.2s shutter.

Wow, Thanks to all of you for all of your comments on this. I will do a little rotation with it as many of you suggested. I'm really happy that so many of you liked it. I knew I did but really wasn't sure if others would so it really pleases me to read your comments. I just got back home from the 3 day photography show and still have a lot of work getting by studio all set back up again. Nice sales on several large pieces so was quite happy with that too. Tomorrow I'll catch up on some comments with the new work here! Time for a beer and some supper! Nick

Exquisite scene, Nick. I think you have framed the water perfectly with the two overhanging rock creating the arch. Not sure if it will work but you might try darkening the rocks a little to add some mystery to the scene. :toast:

Thanks Govind! Appreciate your thoughts on this! Nick
Here is another version where I gave it a little ccw rotation as also darkened the rocks just a bit as Govind was wondering about. Thanks so much to all of you for your thoughts and suggestions. Nick
I guess it is going to be pretty hard to tell any difference now that I looked at it here.
