Light Painting

I had a chance to do a light painting workshop with Dave Black. He set up his Nikon D810. All the lights were turned off and we got to do the light painting. This is one of the setups that we got to paint. I learned some good lessons on light and it's use, not just for light painting. None of my programs will read the metadata from the D810. Thanks for your comments and critiques.

Interesting image Richard. I like the different areas of shadow and light. It seems a touch red to me and that's fine too. I was just curious as to what type of lights you were painting with? I was wondering if you could use different colors of lights in the process?

Hey Richard,
Very nice image, I like everything about it. You managed a great 'Old West' feel and the first impression I got from viewing this image was the morning sunlight clearing the horizon and shining in through the bunk house window and illuminating the Cowboy's gear.
Well done . . . :toast:

Pat, we used a simple pen light with one LED bulb. You could use any color light you wanted and get any kind of effect you want.

I like the composition and the lighting. You might consider cutting back on the magenta, as it looks a little heavy to me. The tolling on the pistol and the belt has nice relief.

Lighting Painting is great fun! I would like to see more of a leather-color come through instead of the magenta.
